Materials Camps - MS&T'08
Nowhere else can students get real-world, hands-on experience in
understanding the science of materials. The program is for high school
teachers and students and provides hands-on learning about the role of
materials in our daily lives. In addition, there is no cost to participate;
that's right it's FREE!
As of June 30th, we have 30 seats remaining and the deadline for
applications has been extended to mid-September!
Overview
A short interactive and hands-on program designed to educate and
excite high school students about the diverse field of materials science
and engineering. The 2.5 hour camp program features highly-
interactive, hands-on based activities. Students will visit eight exhibits
where Pittsburgh area professionals will discuss unique properties and
applications of materials. The participants will be given the opportunity to
speak with students from the Materials Science & Engineering
departments of University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and
other participating universities. The Materials Camp is designed for
college-bound high school students interested in science and
engineering and is intended to foster a general understanding of
Materials Science and Engineering as a field of study and as a career.
Interested teachers and students should fill out and return the
application or contact Chris Roberts to reserve space for a specific
session. Applicants will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis
as each session is limited to ~80 students.
The camp is open to all 11th and 12th grade students as well as their
teachers and will be held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in
downtown Pittsburgh on October 7th and 8th. We are offering a total of 4

The ASM Pittsburgh Chapter is pleased to announce Materials Camp -
MS&T'05! This FREE one-day program will enlighten and excite
Pittsburgh-area high school students about the wonders and
applications of materials. The camp will host 100 students on each day
of the camp - Tuesday and Wednesday, September 27 and 28, 2005
from 10AM-2:30PM - in the MS&T 2005 Expo Hall at the David L.
Lawrence Convention Center.
After a general introduction, students will participate in 8 interactive
exhibits and have the opportunity to view a poster area describing the
roles and opportunities of materials in academia, national labs and
industry. During the one-hour lunch program, attendees will have the
chance to converse with the volunteer Materials Mentors, representing
various industries and materials societies in the Pittsburgh area.
Also, one representative from each attending Material Advantage
Student Chapter is invited to participate in a half-hour segment intended
to provide the attendees with the opportunity to speak with current
college students about their experience as well as provide the student
chapters an opportunity to "pitch" their MS&E programs to the attendees.
